Today we’re walking through how to block unknown calls on iOS. This is great if you get a lot of scam calls, or if you don’t like answering unknown numbers. You’ll still be able to see what numbers have called you, and listen to any voicemails they leave, but your iphone won’t ring when an unknown number calls. So let’s get started.
How to Silence Unknown Callers
1. Grab your iphone and open up the settings app.
2. Scroll down a bit until you see the Phone tab, with a green phone symbol on it. Click that, and look towards the bottom of the screen, where it says “Silence Unknown Callers”.
3. Click that tab, and now you’ll see the option to enable or disable the feature. It’s super simple if you want to start silencing unknown callers, swipe that toggle so it turns green, and then you’re all set!
As the screen states, calls from unknown numbers will be silenced, sent to voicemail, and displayed on the “recent” list. Incoming calls will continue to ring from people in your contacts, recent outgoing calls, and Siri suggestions.
If you decide you no longer want this feature enabled, simply come back to this screen and disable it.
How to Permanently Block a Specific Phone Number
1. Open your “phone” app and click “Recents”.
2. Locate the name/number you want to block.
3. Then, click the “i” to the right.
4. Next, click the “info” button, to the right of the screen.
5. Scroll down, then tap “block this caller”
You can manage your list of blocked numbers by going to the settings app, clicking “messages”, then “blocked contacts”.
